MSI believe that the value of commercial and industrial construction output throughout Great Britain grew steadily throughout the review period, albeit at a slower rate of 4 percent during 2000. Furthermore, the total value of commercial and industrial building, including both new and repair and maintenance work, is believed to have increased to £35.0 billion (55.7 billion) in 2000 compared with £27.1 billion (40.4 billion) during 1997.
The value of new construction work was believed to have reached a total of £21.0 billion (33.4 billion) in 2000, representing 60 percent of the total value of commercial and industrial building construction output. Furthermore, both new and repair and maintenance work increased at a steady rate throughout the review period.
MSI believe that within the private sector, the value of commercial and industrial building output increased by a significant 32 percent during the review period to reach a total of £25.7 billion (40.9 billion) during 2000.
