EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

MSI believe that the UK market for passive fire protection continually increased during the review period. The market is estimated to have risen by some 15 percent to £861.6 million (€1 413.9 million) between 1997 and 2000. Furthermore, MSI project an increase in the market value of some 3 percent in 2001.

Throughout the review period, fire doors have continued to represent the majority of the market value. MSI project that in 2001 fire doors will represent 52 percent of the total market value. Fire resistant architectural ironmongery is expected to account for the second largest sector in 2001, with 19 percent of the market.

The market for passive fire protection in the UK is principally affected by:

MSI forecast the UK passive fire protection market to increase in value by 10 percent in real terms between 2002 and 2006. MSI believe that growth in the UK market for passive fire protection will mainly be a reflection of trends in the UK construction output activity and the state of the UK economy during the forecast period.

The most buoyant sector of the UK passive fire protection market is expected to be the fire resisting architectural ironmongery sector over the next five years. Indeed, this sector is expected to increase by 26 percent in real terms between 2002 and 2006. Growth in sales of fire resisting architectural ironmongery will be influenced by accreditation schemes such as CERTIFIRE which are promoting such products.
