EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

MSI estimate that the UK market for passive fire protection increased by 5 percent to œ838.9 million (euro1300.3 million) at msp during 1999, following growth of 4 percent in the previous year. The market is estimated to have increased by 18 percent between 1995 and 1999.

Fire Doors are estimated to have accounted for the largest proportion of the UK market for passive fire protection products during 1999, representing 52 percent of the market during the year. Fire resistant architectural ironmongery is believed to have been the second largest sector, accounting for 19 percent of the UK market. Partitions, screens, panels, ceilings and linings accounted for a further 8 percent, whereas passive fire protection for structural steelwork accounted for an estimated 7 percent of the market in 19 However, the proportional importance of the fire resisting cables sector declined during the review period to account for 7 percent in 1999 compared with 10 percent in 1995. Furthermore, the value of the fire resisting glass sector, which accounted for 4 percent of the UK market during 1999, is believed to have increased only marginally in real terms during the review period.
