KEY FINDINGS

· MSI estimate that the UK market for digital CCTV video recorders increased by 52 percent to £16.75 million (€27.47 million) at msp during 2000 following growth of 40 percent in the previous year. MSI project that the digital CCTV video recorder market will undergo a further increase of 46 percent in 2001.
· MSI believe that the largest proportion of the UK digital CCTV video recorder market is accounted for by lower specification recorders. MSI project that in 2001 the value of the sector will increase by 46 percent to reach £19.99 million (€32.58 million) at msp.
· MSI project that the value of the higher specification sector will increase by 47 percent in 2001 to reach £4.44 million (€7.24 million) at msp.
· There are a number of important factors affecting demand for digital CCTV video recorders, including crime rates and the perception of crime, insurance company policies, levels of government funding, economic activity, construction activity, the quality and durability of recorded images, convenience, the ability to integrate digital CCTV video recorders into networks, legislation, technological development and cost.
· British involvement in the air raids against Afghanistan following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon on 11 September 2001 has heightened fears of terrorist activity against targets in the UK. This in turn has led to an increase in demand for all forms of security systems and equipment, including digital CCTV video recorders.
· MSI forecast that the UK market for digital CCTV video recorders will increase by as much as 187 percent between 2002 and 2006.
· MSI forecast that the value of the UK market for higher specification digital CCTV video recorders will increase by 214 percent between 2002 and 2006, whilst the value of the lower specification digital CCTV video recorder sector is expected increase in value by 180 percent between 2002 and 2006.
