| List of Diagrams | |
| 1. UK Market For Roofing Materials, 1997?2006 | 2 |
1 Key Findings
· MSI believe that the UK market for roofing materials has increased by some 6 percent over the last five years to 105.17 million m2.
· Demand for metal roofing materials has increased by some 9 percent during the review period. Sales of metal roofing account for the largest proportion of the market with some 41 percent of the total UK market.
· Slates and tiles account for the second largest proportion of the total UK roofing materials market. Within this sector, concrete tiles have dominated sales throughout the review period.
· MSI believe that demand for flat roofing has remained relatively stable throughout the review period. Indeed, this segment of the roofing market has experienced a marginal growth of 2 percent between 1997 and 2001. Within the market for flat roofing, roofing felts have accounted for the highest proportion of sales throughout the review period, accounting for 77 percent of all flat roofing sales. However, sales of single ply membranes have achieved the strongest rates of growth.
· MSI believe that there are a number of factors which stimulate the demand for roofing materials in the UK. These include:
- the state of the economy
- the state of the construction industry
- architectural trends
- planning regulations
- regional demand
- legislation and environmental regulations
· The UK market for roofing materials is expected to increase by 10 percent in total between 2002 and 2006.
· Sales of metal roofing will continue to account for the largest proportion of sales during the forecast period.
· MSI forecast that the UK market for slates and tiles will increase by some 17 percent throughout the forecast period, making this the fastest growing sector of the market. Indeed, this sector will benefit from a continued demand for more traditional roofing materials and favourable construction output within the RMI sectors.
The UK market for flat roofing is expected to grow marginally throughout the forecast period. Indeed, MSI believe that this sector of the market will grow by some 3 percent by 2006.
