| MSI estimate that the UK market for concrete and concrete products increased by 4 percent during 2002 to reach a value of £3.41 billion (5.42 billion). Indeed, the value of the market is believed to have increased by 17 percent between 1998 and 2002, reflecting the increase in the level of construction output recorded during period. |
| MSI estimate that the largest proportion of the UK market for concrete and concrete products in 2002 was accounted for by ready mixed concrete. Sales of ready mixed concrete represented some 41 percent of the market in value terms. The second largest sector of the UK concrete and concrete products market was concrete paving and flagstones, which accounted for an estimated 21 percent of the total in 2002. Concrete bricks and blocks and pre-cast structural concrete were the third and fourth largest sectors of the UK market for concrete and concrete products in 2002, accounting for 15 percent and 12 percent of the value of the market respectively. The remaining 11 percent of the market was accounted for by sales of bagged cement, concrete pipes and fittings and concrete roofing tiles. |
