Ariadne has been trading since 1983, initially as an engineering consultancy and latterly adding marketing consultancy to its activities.
Ariadne is independently owned. It was started by the current owner, Mr. Paul Tucker, when he graduated from the London Business School (LBS) with his MBA. Paul had been responsible for technology transfer projects in the food and pharmaceutical industry prior to LBS and saw a need for a high-level international troubleshooting team for the industry. He created the firm and recruited engineering graduates with computing skills, to satisfy contracts around the world. Ariadne has helped blue-chip process firms meet their production targets in a multitude of countries and industries, and is still involved in the business today.
In 1993, Paul set up the UK market research company First Research, with a team of telephone researchers who interviewed senior management in order to provide high level research that could not be sourced elsewhere. First Research (which is not associated with any similarly named companies) also provides primary research capabilities to the in-house management report authors of Ariadne. We have produced over 80 titles as sub-contract authors to well-known publishers, principally in the engineering fields.
In 1997, this internet site was launched in order to promote and sell management reports for European and Asian publishers. Growth in the early days was gradual, but in the last two years the use of the Internet by corporate users has increased exponentially, and we experienced an increase in hits of 600% in 2001.

Ariadne is entering a new growth phase and is undergoing a rebranding and group reorganisation.
The emphasis within Ariadne has changed completely with the success of our internet activities. It has been decided that the engineering activities, such as our process plant simulation system, our continuous flow grain weigher and our technological consultancy activities need to be separated entirely from our market research and marketing activities. Thus we have set up a number of new companies and trading activities will be transferred to these in due course.

|
Midnight Croquet Ltd is the umbrella company for the new group activities and will be the brand for all advertising activities. Its logo will appear on all sites within the group. Midnight Croquet also owns the domain names for new group activities and its site will act as the gateway for all group domains.
|
|
Report Finder Ltd will handle all sales of management reports and related activities. It owns the assets relating to the management report sites.
|
|
Trade Finder Ltd is a company that will handle sales for a new international activity we shall be starting within the next few months.
|
|
Ariadne will handle all engineering consultancy and owns all the existing assets of the company, including the offices and the computer networks. It will remain as a sole trader organisation. Due to the depth at which the name has been used for branding on the internet, the name will remain on existing pages.

For those of you who like to put a face to a name, here is a transcript of a document I found in the offices of a retail chain for whom we had created a point-of-sale system. The customer had photocopied my business card and added sartorial comments.

| Any similarity to a man wearing a bobble-hat and a false moustache is purely accidental. |
| "In a period when so many systems consultants maintain a me-too
yuppie appearance, how refreshing it is to encounter a professional with
distinctive style & no attempt to compromise dash with
aerodynamics. Despite a rusting sub-frame, sagging suspension & a somewhat quirkish transmission, this model is one of the few thatched editions still roadworthy. What it lacks in refinement it makes up in collector appeal." LORD LONGFORD |
That haircut cost me a lot of money....
