The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th November 2003. During this period, the average company has seen a 16.1 percent rise in sales, from £19.4 million in 2000/01 to £22.5 million in 2002/03. Pre-tax profits increased at the higher rate of 22.4 percent over the same period, from £666,000 in the first year of analysis to £815,000 in the final year after realising a three year high in the middle year of £906,000. The number of people employed in the average company also saw an increase, from 212 in 2000/01 to 228 in 2002/03.
