During this period, the average Report company has seen sales increase 25.8 percent, from £142.8 million in 1999/2000 to £179.6 million in 2001/02. Profits increased at the slightly higher rate of 32.7 percent from £15.2 million in the first year of analysis to £20.2 million in the final year.

Major house builders have witnessed mixed results over the review period. Employee and growth ratios have improved whilst liquidity and gearing ratios have deteriorated. Profitability and efficiency ratios have realised a mixture of both.
