The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th January 2003. During this period, the average Report company has seen sales increase by 21.8 percent, from £38.1 million in 2000/01 to £46.4 million in 2002/03. Profits increased at the higher rate of 50.8 percent from £2.5 million in the first year of analysis to £3.7 million in the final year. The sports equipment industry has realised some positive results over the three years of analysis. All profitability and gearing ratios increased in each consecutive year and, where deterioration did occur in the remaining ratios, it was only to a marginal degree.
