The report itself includes many further analyses of the performance of individual companies and the industry as a whole. The Report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th January 2004. During this period, the average Report company has increased sales by an overall 3.8 percent, from an average of £114.2 million in 2001/02 to £119.9 million in 2002/03 and stands at 118.6 million in 2003/04. Pre-tax profits declined, however, from £7.7 million in the first year of the Report to £6.9 million in the second year of the review, before increasing marginally to £7.1 million in 2003/04. This represents an overall decrease in pre-tax profits of 7.7 percent for the average Report company.
