The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th June 2003. During this period, the average company witnessed a 19.4 percent increase in sales from £14.8 million in 2000/01 to £16 million in 2001/02 before ending the three years in 2002/03 at £17.7 million. Pre-tax profits deteriorated over the same period however, falling from £793,000 in 2000/01 to £753,000 in 2002/03 despite the middle year being the strongest period in terms of profits.
