| The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th April 2004. During this period, the average company has seen a marginal fall in sales, from £42.6 million in 2001/02 to £41.6 million in 2003/04. Profits also declined, from £1.8 million in the first year of analysis to £1.3 million in the final year. |
| Electronic component distributors have witnessed deterioration in the majority of ratios over the three years of analysis. All profitability and gearing ratios declined and the majority of efficiency ratios also realised a fall. Despite seeing some improvement, compound contractions were realised for three of the four growth ratios. The industry has suffered the effects of a downturn in the telecommunications market in recent years as well as the detrimental issues of grey market prices and availability. |
