The report itself includes many further analyses of the performance of individual companies and the industry as a whole. The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th December 2002. During this period, the average Report company witnessed a 15.7 percent increase in sales from £53.8 million in 1999/2000 to £62.3 million in 2001/02. Pre-tax profits deteriorated however, falling from £3.3 million in 1999/2000 to £2.3 million in 2001/02. The rise in sales concurrent with a fall in profits would suggest that the average company has suffered an increase in its cost of sales.
