The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th May 2003. During this period, the average company has seen sales decrease by 3.8 percent, from £5.8 million in 2000/01 to £5.6 million in 2002/03. Profits fell at a higher rate of 38.3 percent, from £133,000 in the first year of analysis to £88,000 in the final year. The spring manufacturers industry has witnessed mixed results over the three financial years analysed. Profitability ratios have seen some decline and growth ratios, despite realising some improvement from the first half of the Report period to the second, revealed compound growth contractions. More positively liquidity, gearing and employee ratios were reasonable and efficiency ratios remained stable.
