This Business Ratio report focuses on the leading 127 companies operating in the printing industry. The report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th May 2003. During this period, the average Report company has witnessed sales increase by 3.5 percent from £21.6 million in 2000/2001 to £22.4 million in 2002/03. Profits however suffered deterioration over the Report period, falling by 15.5 percent, from £1.6 million in the first period to £1.3 million in the latest year of analysis. Overall the 2000/01 to 2002/03 period has been reasonably stable for printing companies featured within this Report, with relatively constant sales, relatively unchanged efficiency ratios and diminishing debt levels. Profitability however is an area of weakness within the industry with all ratios witnessing decline, an area that will have to be addressed to ensure long-term stability.
